FWD Deflection Analysis — Station 7
16 Test Points
Falling Weight Deflectometer data — deflection basin, subgrade modulus, and structural index calculations at ~9,000 lbf load level.
Maximum Surface Deflection (D0)
Back-Calculated Subgrade Modulus

Temperature Profile During Testing
Deflection Basin — Sensor response at 0″ to 72″ offsets
Basin Area — Structural capacity indicator
Subgrade Modulus — Foundation stiffness
Max Deflection — Peak response profile
SCI — Upper layer condition
Temperature — Air vs pavement surface
GPR Radar Profiles
Subsurface
Ground Penetrating Radar scans revealing pavement layer interfaces, voids, and subsurface anomalies.

Research Timeline
2023–2027
2023
Project Initiation
WHRP G23-02 launched to study frost susceptibility of Wisconsin pavements. Literature review, site selection, and methodology development.
July 2024
First Field Campaign
FWD deflection testing, GPR subsurface profiling, and sensor instrumentation at 8 sites: Manotowish, Woodruff, Fifield, Chetek, Arcadia, Pittsville, Theresa, and Tipler. 756 field photos documented.
2024 – 2025
Data Analysis & Platform Development
FWD structural index calculations, GPR layer identification, resilient modulus modeling. Development of WiSWR real-time monitoring and SWR decision platform.
Spring 2026 (Planned)
Second Field Campaign
Expanded FWD/GPR testing in 8 counties: Barron, Dodge, Florence, Iron, Oneida, Price, Trempealeau, and Wood. Spring thaw monitoring with real-time RWIS data correlation.
2026 – 2027
Final Analysis & Reporting
Multi-year data integration, frost susceptibility guidelines development, and final WHRP report publication.
